Justice minister will ‘prioritise’ controversial legislation to protect Israelis in the West Bank from ‘discriminatory’ martial rule. Critics charge that would advance de facto annexation of territory beyond the Green Line. MK Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union): ‘The right-wing government is quietly beginning the process of annexation in order to impose its ideology. The end result will be the collapse of the two-state idea, the imposition of two completely different legal systems in one country, enormous damge to Israel’s image internationally and, ultimately, 2.5 million Palestinians with the right to vote and a Knesset majority.’
