Ross, a Jew, was one of at least 160,000 people held in the Lodz Ghetto in Poland. Officially, he was forced to work as a photographer for the Jewish Administration’s statistics department. Unofficially, at great personal danger, he documented the cruel truth of life under Nazi rule.
