Women will no longer be banned from singing at the annual Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony in Cape Town. The South African Centre for Religious Equality and Diversity (SACRED) dropped a complaint it had filed in the Equality Court of the Western Cape High Court against the Cape Town chapter of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies. In exchange, the Board promised to restructure future ceremonies to include women singing. [The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies has just reinstated a similar non-exclusionary policy after some of its Deputies gave notice of a motion challenging a practice that had recently crept in of excluding women from singing at Holocaust commemorations.]
