Israel deepens its control of land in the West Bank

Settlements and outposts are only some of the ‘facts on the ground’ being created or maintained by Israel in the West Bank. To deepen its control over land, Israel also uses road networks, industrial zones, settlement security zones, military zones, other closed zones, nature and archaeological parks, remapping of state land, dispossession of Palestinian agricultural land, planning discrimination and demolitions.

Under the international radar, Israel is turning West Bank land into commercial centres – some of which stand vacant. These zones broaden Israeli presence in the territories, including in areas unauthorised for housing construction and outside the settlement blocs.
