The 1983 law prohibiting fraud in kashrut gives authority to the chief and municipal rabbinates to provide kashrut certificates. But is it reasonable in a Jewish and democratic state to force a business owner to get a kashrut certificate from the rabbinate if he or she observes Jewish dietary law and wishes to state that personally to clients?
