Israelis often hear it said that Palestinian President Abbas calls for peace in English but for armed struggle in Arabic. Those who propound this claim, most of whom know no Arabic, are merely regurgitating criticism of Arafat’s doublespeak. In fact, meticulous research shows that Abbas’ views on Israel and Zionism have grown more moderate over time.
