The military aid MOU is really a victory for Obama over Netanyahu and his conservative supporters in Washington—quieter than the Iran deal but arguably as decisive. Obama said in his signing statement that the US will continue to press for a two-state solution, ‘despite the deeply troubling trends on the ground that undermine this goal’, a view he reiterated in his last UN speech and at his recent meeting with Netanyahu.

Netanyahu has failed to persuade a single world leader that the settlements don't pose an obstacle to peace and don't threaten to make the two-state solution impossible to implement. Not even one. Opposition to Israeli settlements may be the strongest and most stable consensus in international diplomacy.
