Israeli photographer Michal Ronnen Safdie was walking along a beach just north of Tel Aviv and noticed a canvas-covered fence blocking off a stretch of sand. Beyond it lay a world of women: ultra-Orthodox Jews, come to enjoy the sun and sea with their children on a day when the beach was closed to men.
