Polygamy often leads to domestic violence, sexual assault, endemic poverty and psychological disorders. It has been illegal in Israel since 1977 but the law is rarely enforced in the Bedouin sector. Cabinet has now agreed on a plan to integrate Bedouin women in the workforce, offer boosted health services, and advocate against ‘enlarged families’.
