THE SUMMER THAT MARKS 50 years of the occupation is coming to a close. For ordinary Palestinians the number of years and whether or not you call it occupation isn’t really the point. Every aspect of life and future is shaped in some way by Israel’s military decisions.

Nevertheless, the human spirit burns strongly and brightly in Palestine, manifesting itself in a variety of cultural and artistic activities. Through music, art, food, dance, theatre and other such enterprises, residents can express their rich history and traditions, find solace and hope, or simply just escape reality for a fleeting moment.
