The initiative is also supported by Labour Friends of Israel in the UK and was inspired by the success of the international Fund for Ireland, which spent more than $1.2bn over 20 years building grassroots cooperation and support for peace in Northern Ireland.

Two congressmen have introduced a measure to establish - in cooperation with the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority, regional governments and the international community - an international fund to promote peace between Israel and Palestinians.
