The appearance of B’Tselem at the UN Security Council drew a slew of attacks on Israeli peace and human rights organisations for trying to bring about change other than through the ballot box. But Netanyahu can teach them a thing or two in that respect. And then there are those American billionaires, who influence Israel from afar but don’t live there to bear the consequences.

B’Tselem was probably aware it might lose another segment of Israeli public opinion by addressing the Security Council. But let’s remember another incident: the dissemination of the B’Tselem video in March that documented the shooting of a neutralised terrorist by soldier Elor Azaria in Hebron. That demonstrated the reality of the occupation to Israelis and the world much more clearly than any speech delivered in New York.
