Board released statement last night saying it became aware of the allegation last week

CAULFIELD HEBREW CONGREGATION has stood down a member of staff over an allegation of improper behaviour.

In a statement released last night, the board of CHC said: “Last week, Caulfield Hebrew Congregation became aware that an allegation had been made against a CHC staff member.

“In accordance with our policies and reporting obligations, we immediately began working with the appropriate authorities. The staff member has been stood down pending the investigation by those authorities.

“The matter is now the subject of ongoing external processes, and the board continues to be guided by the relevant authorities.”

Following the board’s statement, Manny Waks, head of VoiCSA, which advocates on behalf of victims of child sexual abuse, said his organisation "is concerned that the statement put out by the board today expresses no concern for the wellbeing of the victim, fails to thank [the victim] for reporting the allegation and provides scant details of the nature of the allegation".

The board of CHC said it has encouraged anyone with concerns to reach out to contact president Howard Zeimer or to contact Victoria Police.
